Rechargeable lithium battery
Reliable and Light Portable DVD Player
I did a lot of research trying to decide on which portable DVD player I would spend my money. I was looking for a light weight player that came with a battery that would last at least 2 hours. I also wanted a player that would play movies without any hiccups or delays and that had a good display. This player has all that and more. It is extremely light-weight and small enough to fit in your laptop bag for those boring business trips (when your company is too cheap to spring for a DVD player in your company laptop-sigh!). The package includes an AC adapter, a battery that, through practical tests, lasts 2-3 hours, a set of headphones, a small remote control unit as well as audio and video cables to view the output on your television screen. The display is crisp and clear on a screen that is 5 1/2 inches, not too bad on the old eyes. The sound, Dolby Digital, is not too bad considering the speakers are very small, but hook up a set of head phones and the sound rocks. Now for the important stuff, what type of disks and media does it play. So far, it has played pretty much everything I've thrown at it. DVDs, (obviously) VCD, SVCD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, Audio CDs, and, as an added bonus, not only is it NTSC compliant but PAL compliant as well. This little feature enables you to view downloaded SVCDs of your favorite british or european televeision shows that may not have been encoded as NTSC. Sweet! I can highly recommend this little gem and feel certain you'll get hours of viewing pleasure from this portable DVD player.
I purchased a 7in. Mintek from [other store], .... This works great! Wonderful picture, and great sound. It's very light and once you put it in a Case Logic carrying case, it looks almost the same size as a CD player. I can't wait to fly home and use this. Screen size was perfect. Don't pay more for a brand name. Great quality, good price. It came with everything. Adapter to watch in car, hook-up to tv, remote, AC/DC adapter. Just plug and go.
Technology not ready for prime time
The DVD is perfectly sized and priced for portable DVD viewing. However, this first generation of mobile DVD players does not have all the bugs worked out and it looks like it was rushed to market to get it under the Christmas trees. Both the picture and sound get hung up frequently, not just when you are using it in the car but frequently when you are watching from a flat, non-moving surface. I am in the process of returning my second player back to the manufacturer. Not quite ready for prime time yet, maybe next Christmas.
